The home of golf (St Andrews), William
Wallace, Rob Roy and the inventor of television (John Logie Baird),
Scotland is a country of rugged beauty and long history.
The largest city, Glasgow, has
excellent hotel facilities and is home to the massive new Scottish
Exhibition & Conference Centre. The capital, Edinburgh is steeped in
history, with its castle dominating the city's skyline.
Both
Edinburgh and Glasgow have busy international airports and are now two
of the world's most cosmopolitan cities. Although each has its own
"personality", they share a vibrant nightlife and a rich
culture.
Scotland is divided into three main
regions; the Highlands, the Midland Valley and the Southern Uplands. The
cities of Edinburgh, Glasgow and Dundee together with numerous towns,
most of the population and the majority of Scotland's industry is
located within the Midland Valley.
Two things strike you the moment you
set foot on Scottish soil. The first is the warmth of the welcome; the
second is the country's natural beauty. The Scottish countryside has a
breathtaking landscape, from Loch Ness to Ben Nevis on Loch Lhynne.
Scotland is a country where busy urban conurbations are surrounded by
wide-open spaces so, whether you want social-life or solitude, the
choice is yours. And that choice is massive, with outdoor activities
including skiing, climbing, sailing and mountain-biking.
So, it's no wonder that today's
Scotland plays host to world leaders in the knowledge economy...not to
mention Madonna's wedding. |
